Reconstruction of the South
The reconstruction era of the United States started on January 1st, 1863. It is the era that the Union had started to reconstruct itself from the Civil War that had divided the Union in two. The Reconstruction Era had lasted for fourteen years and it may have solved many problems, but it also created some. This page will talk about what all happened during the Reconstruction Era of the United States such as Reconstruction of the Southern Military, and Reconstruction of the Southern Government.
African American given the rights to Vote and take Office.
The reconstruction of the Southern Government started after
Andrew Johnson became the president of the United States.
It started with the new Amendments. The fifteenth amendment
focused on giving male, African-American citizens the right
to vote and have equality by law, no matter the race.
Many people were becoming infuriated since President
Andrew Johnson had pardoned half the Southerners that
had fought in the Civil War. He also had a lenient policy to
the south that had allowed the Southerners to pass what was
called "Black Codes" which were 'Codes'/'Rules' that made the
White Southerners superior to the African Southerners. This had
made many people mad in the North, especially people who had
strongly believed that everyone was equal no matter what they are.
Andrew Johnson had also allow the possibility of the old leaders of the
Confederate States of America become leaders of the Southern States.

uring the reconstruction of the south, even after the war had officially ended, some of the old Confederate officers and soldiers had created a sort of group or clan. The Ku Klux Klan, which was created by Veteran Confederate Calvary leader and five other veteran Confederates. Once the group of veteran Confederates became violent, the founder tried to dismiss the group, but it was too late. Due to the outbreaks of violence, once congress impeached President Andrew Johnson, they passed the "Withdrawal of Union Troops" in 1877. Which withdrew Union troops from the south. This brought even more problems which stripped African-Americans of their new rights. Ulysses S. Grant had pursued the KKK until it was effectively shutdown at the time.
